Waterfest 20 presented by APR

This past weekend, we headed out to Englishtown, NJ for one of the biggest Volkswagen shows of the year, Waterfest. This year’s show was the 20th season and it was a great day for the show. Not too hot, not rainy, not windy, perfect weather. This was a nice change from the past few years where it has been scorching hot during this show. Perfect cruising weather was essential because we live about 2 ½ hours from Jersey. On Sunday morning around 6:45am, we left home and made a stop at a Wal-mart off of 222 to meet up with a few cars. It’s always nicer to cruise up with other cars, especially on a long drive like this one. We arrived in Englishtown a little bit before 10am, surprised to see that there weren’t that many cars in the parking lot yet.

Even though we arrived early, cars were rolling in and all the vendors and everything were already up and running. I must say that this show definitely has the biggest vendor turnout of any of the shows that we go to. You can get almost anything Volkswagen-related here, from apparel to Recaro seats to new and used parts. Needless to say, we always bring a lot of cash in case we find some goodies that we want.  APR was the main sponsor for this event, just like past years, and they had a display like no other!  A nice addition to this show is the many vendors on site that provide tuning services.  You have your choice between at least 5 companies and APR has cars lined up all day long either waiting for a tune or some other installment.

Events going on throughout the day included autocross, drag racing, and a burnout contest.  Put this together with the car show, and you can really spend the entire day there and not run out of things to do.  The USP Audi drag car was putting down fast times all weekend and it hit the 9-second mark Saturday night.  All day Sunday, the drag strip was busy.

The car show was a great turnout this year.  Something that was a huge draw for the crowd was the Corrado Magnum.  Between having a great looking design and being brand new in the U.S., it was a show stopper.  I was also drooling over the HPA MkVI Scirocco at their stand.  Have always wanted to see one in person and finally did, so now I can check that off my list.  The Mk7’s are definitely starting to show up not only through the vendor booths, but also scattered around the parking lots and exhibition area.  That car is going to be a hit.

Overall, this was a great show and the nice weather made it even better.  Next year we need to make it to Afterfest on Saturday night!  That was the only thing I was disappointed I didn’t get to see this year. We look forward to the show every year and we’re never let down by it. Go check out our GALLERY from the show. If you’re never been to Waterfest, you’re missing out and you should definitely put it on your list of shows to go to next year!
